Crossbasket Castle is a castle wedding venue in South Lanarkshire, roughly half an hour's drive from Glasgow. It gives couples a proper castle setting for the day — characterful period rooms indoors, grounds around it for photographs — without needing to travel far from the city to get it.

Andrew and Alicia married here on an August afternoon, in a wood-panelled room at Crossbasket Castle — a navigator and a mapmaker who'd found their true north in each other, marked with a handfasting in two tartans and a reading from Neil Gaiman. Why Crossbasket Castle works
My advice from the front of the room: the period interiors give you a warm, characterful backdrop for the ceremony itself whatever the Scottish weather decides to do, and because humanist ceremonies are legally binding anywhere in Scotland, you've got the flexibility to take vows outdoors on the grounds too if the day allows it. A handfasting suits a castle setting like this one down to the ground, and for anyone travelling in from further afield, the paperwork is far simpler than most couples expect. Crossbasket is roughly half an hour from Glasgow, close enough to sit within my Glasgow & Loch Lomond patch.
