Garry Beach — sea stacks, white sand, and your vows.
On the east coast of Lewis beyond Tolsta, Tràigh Gheàrradha — Garry Beach — is one of Scotland's great wild wedding venues: white sand, sculpted sea stacks, machair behind and the Minch in front. No buildings, no bookings, no backdrop needed. I've married a couple here with their family walking down the beach beside them, and I'd go back tomorrow.

Marrying here yourself
Because humanist ceremonies are legally binding anywhere in Scotland, this beach is a fully official venue — no licence needed for the place itself. My practical advice: check the tide tables before you set your time (the beach is at its widest and whitest on a falling tide), keep the ceremony compact and the layers warm, appoint someone with a good portable speaker, and give your notice forms to the registrar in good time. Guests travel by the A857 north from Stornoway — about half an hour — and the islands guide has the wider planning picture. A handfasting belongs here like the wind does.
