Fairfield House Hotel is a Victorian mansion house on the seafront in Ayr, looking across the Firth of Clyde to Arran, with 44 bedrooms and a function suite that does the whole day. It's part of the RAD Hotel Group, which also runs Seamill Hydro and the Brig o' Doon. I married a couple here in October 2025, on a Thursday afternoon, in the Fairfield Suite.
The Fairfield Suite
The hotel lists two function rooms, and the Fairfield Suite is the big one: the hotel quotes it at up to 120 for events, and its wedding brochure has the Suite hired for the whole day. It's a bright, formal room: panelled walls, pale patterned wallpaper, deep cornicing, chandeliers, and a mirrored wall down one side that makes it feel bigger than it is. For my ceremony the chairs were dressed with black sashes and set in rows beside a carpeted aisle on the wooden floor, and the signing table sat at the front by the windows.
The other room, the Boardroom, is listed for meetings of up to 12. I haven't married anyone in it, so if you're planning something very small, ask whether it's available for a ceremony, and go and see it.
One room, all day
Because the Suite is yours for the whole day, your ceremony, meal and evening can all happen in the same room, and nobody has to be herded from building to building. The catch is the turnaround: after the ceremony, the rows of chairs come out and the tables go in. Ask how long that takes and where everyone goes while it happens. The brochure also includes use of the hotel's lounges and private gardens, so on a dry day your drinks can go outside, and on a wet one you'll want to know which lounge is yours.
The case for a Thursday
The couple I married here had their guests arriving from one o'clock, a piper playing as they came in, and the ceremony at two. Midweek and out of season, a date like that is often easier to get, and there's no reason for it to feel any smaller than a Saturday. If you do go midweek, give people plenty of notice so they can book the day off, and think about who's heading back to work the next morning when you set your timings.
